George Dickel 15 Year Single Barrel Tennessee Whisky

"I don't think we deserve these extra aged single barrels from George Dickel."

Extra aged bourbon and whiskey is still hard to come by. And from past interviews with master distillers. These barrels have to earn the right to age longer. If you happen to find some older whiskey on the shelf. It’s probably a blended release and the price point usually starts at $100 . The fact that George Dickel has priced this new offering for $60 at retail makes it that much more exciting.

Also, I don’t know who else missed the “Aged at Least” on the label when it came out. I only saw the “15 Years” initially. My brother was the one that pointed it out to me. Since then I have seen some store picks that have advertised 16 and 17 year barrels.

George Dickel 15 Year Single Barrel Review

Color:  Burnt Umber

Nose/Aroma:  A delicious aroma of vanilla, caramel, oak, cinnamon, fresh fruit/apple, cherry notes. There is a custard note that showed up on the fourth pass. That custard aroma seems to only show up as I swirl the whisky in the glass.  I go back and forth from candied fruit to vanilla cinnamon roll. This whisky brings a lot to the table on the nose. There is a definite richness that comes from age.

Palate/Body:  Thick mouthfeel. I get a lot of caramel, cinnamon, oak and cherry. Medium body with long legs around the glass.

Finish: Long finish of leather, cinnamon, oak, hint of cherry.

Overall:  I don’t think we deserve these extra aged single barrels from George Dickel. There are too many negative comments every week for any whisky with origins to Tullahoma. This barrel shines with the extra age on it. I enjoyed both Bottled-In-Bond releases that were aged 11 and 13 years respectively. I’m thankful they pursued this expression at an amazing price point. I had quit purchasing back ups but this release had me make an exception. I needed to have a backup. I think you should too!

Drink well friends! 🥃👍

Purchased at the Distillery in 2021 for $85 p/bottle. Purchased Bottle No. 111 and 112. “Tasting” took my breath away, not in the sense this bourbon being too bold or hot, but just simply different and exciting. After tasting many different bourbons during this trip (from Tn to Kentucky, the flavor and aroma were quite different). I have yet to open a bottle but will come back and add a more thorough review. Ciao.
