Old Forester 1910 Old Fine Whisky Review

The Narrative:

Brown-Forman was founded in 1870 by George Garvin Brown. At the time he was a young pharmaceuticals salesman in Louisville who had an idea to sell high-quality whiskey in sealed glass bottles. He started J.T.S. Brown and Bro. with his half brother. They sold their whiskey in sealed glass bottles as an assurance of quality. This was an innovative approach for the time since whiskey was most commonly sold by the barrel. The initial flagship brand was Old Forester Kentucky Straight Bourbon Whiskey.

After company name changes and the dissolution of the founding partnership, George Garvin enters into a new partnership with George Forman, who was his accountant and friend. The new business was named Brown-Forman and Company.

Owsley Brown, George Garvin Brown’s son, applied for and received a license to bottle whisky for medicinal purposes in 1920. Owsley Brown was responsible for acquisitions of Early Times, and Labrot & Graham Distillery that was originally founded by whiskey pioneer, Elijah Pepper. Brown-Forman would eventually acquire the Jack Daniel Distillery in 1956. Labrot & Graham Distillery was later changed to Woodford Reserve Distillery in 2003.

Brown-Forman Distillery continues to produce some of the best whiskey’s on the market with brands such as Old Forester, Early Times, Woodford Reserve, Jack Daniel’s and new brands to the market with Cooper’s Craft.

" This is a real fine sippin' whiskey if I have ever had one. "

Old Forester 1910 Old Fine Whisky Review

Color:  Light Mahogany. A beautifully rich brown.

Nose/Aroma: 1910 on the nose initially has age and character that is different than any recent whiskeys I have nosed! Or whiskeys from my past for that matter! It smells rich and luxurious. There is a rich creamy nose on this bourbon. Very subtle notes of vanilla, oak and cinnamon. The nose of this whiskey fits the “Old Fine Whisky” title. Upon a second nosing there is dark fruit making an apperance in the mix. Along with some old wood. This nose has me excited for what the palate will bring!

Palate/Body: The creamy nature of this bourbon transfers from the nose to the palate. This whiskey on the mouth is a rich caramel, vanilla and oak dream. It has thin legs but a medium body all around.

Finish: The finish is over more quickly than I would want but has delicious notes of cinnamon and oak.

Overall:  This really is a fantastic whiskey! I said it earlier in the review but it certainly deserves the label it received of “Old Fine Whisky”. This is a real fine sippin’ whiskey if I have ever had one. It has just enough heat to keep me interested compared to the high proof releases I normally enjoy. I can understand how this first release of it sold out so fast! If you are able to find a bottle around definitely don’t hesitate to experience this expression! If this would be the last release of the Whiskey Row Series I think I would be ok with that.

Have you tried this particular expression of The Whiskey Row Series? What did you think?

Or, do you have a favorite Old Forester release
